Project Overview
The Zambia Commodity Exchange (ZAMACE) Integrated Digital Platform is a comprehensive solution designed to modernize agricultural commodity trading in Zambia. This platform connects farmers, buyers, financial institutions, and other stakeholders in a transparent and efficient digital marketplace.
The Challenge
ZAMACE was operating with traditional trading methods that were inefficient, lacked transparency, and limited market access for small-scale farmers. They needed a digital solution that would democratize access to markets, improve price discovery, and increase transaction volumes while ensuring trust among all participants.
The Solution
I led the development of an integrated digital platform that digitized the entire commodity trading process. The solution included features such as digital warehouse receipts, an electronic trading platform, market information systems, payment integration, and a mobile app for farmers. The platform was built using React for the frontend, Elixir/Phoenix for the backend, and PostgreSQL for the database.
Results
- Increased transaction volume by 40% within the first month
- Onboarded over 500 stakeholders including farmers, traders, and financial institutions
- Reduced transaction processing time from days to minutes
- Improved price transparency and market access for small-scale farmers
- Enabled financial institutions to provide financing against warehouse receipts
